Upper Ammertal with the Merkental side valley is a protected landscape area (protected area number 4.16.011) in the Tübingen district .

Location and description

The protected area is located in the Ammer Valley between the Ammerbuch districts of Reusten and Poltringen . It belongs to the natural area 104- Schönbuch and Glemswald within the natural spatial main unit 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of the Ammer Valley between Reusten and Poltringen with its still near-natural stream, the valley floodplains managed as grassland, the differently shaped slopes including geological outcrops from the shell limestone and the water areas created by mining, as well as the botanical protection of the slopes facing south and zoologically species-rich steppe heath , semi -arid grassland, dry grassland and rock communities.
