Lower Ammertal is a protected landscape area (protected area number 4.16.024) in the Tübingen district.

Location and description

The protected area is located north of the Unterjesingen district of Tübingen and extends from Pfäffingen to the city limits of Tübingen. It belongs to the natural area 104- Schönbuch and Glemswald within the natural spatial main unit 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of the open Ammer Valley with peripheral areas as evidence of a cultural landscape created by the land management. This cultural landscape with its various elements, in particular the fields, meadows and pastures, the bunting with its system of ditches and the accompanying vegetation, the wet meadows and reeds, the hedges, field trees and orchards should be preserved. The area is to be preserved as an economic area for agriculture, a recreational area for the general public and as a habitat for species-rich flora and fauna.
