In the district of Tübingen , there are 21 landscape conservation areas . According to the protected area statistics of the State Institute for the Environment, Measurements and Nature Conservation Baden-Württemberg (LUBW), 20,088.61 hectares of the district area are under landscape protection, that is 38.69 percent.

Largest closed forest area in Württemberg (13,750 ha) with particular importance for the recreation of the population, the climate, hunting and for field biological research. The richly structured Keupertäler in the interior of the Schönbuch, the contrast between plateaus and slopes, the great differences in the local climate and the foothills of the forest against the Neckar and Aichtal all determine the diversity of plant and animal life and the wealth of different landscapes. The steep drop (Keuperstufe) of the Schönbuch to the Ammertal and the Gäu landscape is also significant in terms of landscape.
