In the district of Karlsruhe there are 59 landscape conservation areas. The oldest protected landscape area in the district is the Bocksbachtal area, which was first placed under protection in 1939 . According to the protected area statistics of the State Agency for the Environment, Measurements and Nature Conservation Baden-Württemberg (LUBW), 26,685.53 hectares of the district area are under landscape protection, that is 24.60 percent.
