Tamara Obrovac

Tamara Obrovac (* 1962 in Pula ) is a Croatian jazz musician (vocals, flute, composition ). She is considered one of the most versatile and important artists on the new Croatian music scene.

Career

Obrovac's debut album was released in 1996, followed by seven more albums by 2016. With her Transhistria Ensemble and her quartet she presents her own compositions that reflect the Mediterranean musical tradition. She works on the synthesis of elements of the old Istrian musical tradition (such as a special tone scale that is alien to the Central European ear and which the Croatian Ministry of Culture is trying to have recognized as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO ) and contemporary jazz.

She also worked with musicians such as Teodosij Spassow , Kostas Theodorou, Marc Abrams , Ewald Oberleitner , Glauco Venier , Simone Zanchini , Enzo Favata , Gabriele Mirabassi , Hubert von Goisern or Vlatko Stefanovski / Miroslav Tadić . In addition, she directed the Valamar Jazz Festival in Porec . She wrote the music for several films, including What Is a Man Without a Mustache .

Obravac has received numerous prizes and awards, including Porin as best singer in 2006 .
