Oder-Lausitz-Strasse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oder-Lausitz-Straße , also known as the Oder-Lausitz-Trasse , is an important infrastructure project in the state of Brandenburg . The aim is to build a 265 km long motor vehicle road in East Brandenburg, which runs more or less near the border with Poland . For this purpose, existing federal highways are being expanded or new roads are being built, especially as bypasses . In the opinion of the state government and the districts involved, the construction of the road can give the otherwise structurally weak region an important impetus for economic development and the inner cities can be relieved of through traffic.

Course of the Oder-Lausitz-Straße

A continuous road width of at least 2 + 1 lanes should be created, i.e. traffic usually takes place in one direction of travel on two, in the opposite direction on one lane. After several kilometers, the dual lane direction is exchanged.

Construction of the road began in 1999 and is expected to be completed by 2015. By January 2005, around a third of the total route had been expanded or newly built. The total construction costs are given as 500 million euros.

Routing

The route begins on the A13 motorway near Schwarzheide and essentially follows the course of the federal highway 169 past Senftenberg to the A15 near Cottbus , which is to be bypassed by a new road to the east. Due to the expansion of the Jänschwalde opencast mine , it was necessary to relocate new roads in the direction of Guben , which was carried out from 2001 to 2004 in accordance with the standard of the Oder-Neisse-Straße. From Guben, the road then follows the course of the B112 via Eisenhüttenstadt to Frankfurt (Oder) , which is bypassed to the west by a new road. The A12 is crossed south of Frankfurt . The new construction of the Frankfurt bypass leads to the previous B167 , where the route leads via Seelow to Bad Freienwalde (Oder) through the Oderbruch . From Bad Freienwalde, the construction of a new road towards Angermünde and Schwedt is planned or already implemented. This will give the PCK refinery a motor vehicle road connection. From Schwedt the Oder-Lausitz-Straße follows the course of the B166 and joins the A20 in the municipality of Uckerfelde at the Uckermark junction .

criticism

In addition to vehement supporters of the Oder-Lausitz-Straße project, who mainly come from the business sector and the relevant district administrations, there are also a number of critics. On the one hand, they accuse the state government of wasting taxpayers' money in view of the ever-decreasing population and only low traffic density in the region concerned. On the other hand, reference is also made to the destruction of previously intact natural areas associated with the construction of new road sections, especially in the area of the Neisse and the northern Oderbruch.
