Act
In addition to free artistic work, Höhnen created numerous sculptural works for churches and public spaces .
For the public space he created bronze and stone sculptures of well-known personalities from the respective local history. Of the 124 stone figures of important Cologne personalities on the Cologne City Hall, the Cologne Council Tower , the figures Johann Maria Farina , Heinrich Böll , Max Bruch and Emperor Otto IV come from Höhnen . The life-size sculpture by Böll was a gift from Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker to the city. Other sculptures in Cologne include the representation of a well-known carnivalist in the Jupp Schmitz memorial, as well as the mouse and elephant memorial in the foyer of the WDR . In Frechen there are numerous sculptures and groups of sculptures related to the local pottery and lignite mining, but also depictions of daily housework and work as well as depictions of children.
In the sacred space he furnished churches with altars , ambo , tabernacle , baptismal font , cross , candlesticks and depictions of the stations of the cross , and so on. a. the churches of St. Michael Großbüllesheim and Mariä Himmelfahrt Weidesheim near Euskirchen as well as St. Johannes in Wipperfürth - Kreuzberg should be mentioned. Sculptures of local and patron saints are in St. Audomar , Frechen; St. Martin , Euskirchen-Stotzheim ; the Christinadenkmal in Pulheim-Stommeln . A rarity is its portrayal of the Provost Bernard Henrichs as head dunce cap in addition to register "Loss jonn" the swallow's nest organ in the cathedral .
In the mundane area, Höhnen created bronze plaques, such as the Heinrich Böll plaque for the annual award of the Böll Prize by the city of Cologne and the plaque of honor from the city of Frechen to be awarded to deserving citizens. The artist's work also includes small sculptures, graphics and watercolors, as well as collages with various materials. Olaf Höhnen was a member of the jury for the 12th international graphics triennial Frechen in 1999.
