Oleksij Ivanovich Poroshenko (born June 11, 1936 in Sofian-Trubaiovca , Romania / today Odessa Oblast , Ukraine ; † June 16, 2020 in Kiev ) was a Ukrainian businessman , politician and hero of Ukraine .

Oleksiy Poroshenko was the general director of the Ukrprominvest group and a member of the Vinnytsia Oblast parliament and the father of the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko .

Poroshenko completed a degree in mechanical engineering in Lviv in 1957 and then worked in Bender as chief engineer until 1974 . In 1974 he was appointed director of the Bender Research and Experimental Repair Plant in the Republic of Moldova . According to Spiegel, there are indications in archives that Oleksy spent two years in prison for stealing state property.

After the independence of Ukraine in 1992, he moved to Kiev , where he and his son "and others", the Closed Joint Stock Company Ukrprominvest (Ukrainian Група "Укрпромінвест" ) founded, one investment and conglomerate , whose 50 companies including the shipbuilding and arms company Leninska Kuznya , beet, grain and seed trading company , owning over 100,000 hectares of land, car companies, one of the largest taxi companies in Kiev and shares in an insurance company. Awards

Oleksij Poroshenko was already honored during the Soviet Union. His wife Yevhenia Serhiyivna died in 2004 and his eldest son Mychailo died in a car accident in 1997 under mysterious circumstances. Both are buried in the family vault in Kiev. His grandson Olexiy (* 1985) was a member of the regional parliament of Vinnytsia Oblast and has been a member of the Verkhovna Rada since November 2014 .
