Oliver Jeges

Oliver Jeges (born August 17, 1982 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist and book author.

Life

Jeges grew up as the child of an Austrian mother and an Egyptian father in Vienna. After an apprenticeship as a wholesale merchant in the hardware industry , Jeges studied political science , philosophy and history at the University of Vienna . In 2009 he moved to Berlin. In 2011 and 2012 he was a volunteer at the Axel Springer Academy . Jeges published in newspapers and magazines, including Der Spiegel , Stern , Der Standard , Die Presse , Die Welt , Berliner Morgenpost , Cicero , Liberal, taz and Jüdisches Echo. He appeared at times as a guest author on the blog " The Axis of the Good ".

Jeges is the originator of the term Generation Maybe . His article about the self-image of the younger generation, published in 2012 in the daily newspaper Die Welt , was shared almost 100,000 times on Facebook . In 2014 his book Generation Maybe - The Signature of an Era was published . The term “Generation Maybe” was picked up in 2016 by the British daily The Guardian with reference to Jeges.

Jeges also appears in public as a critic of Islam . He lamented a lack of self-criticism and double standards among many Muslims who protest against Israel and the Mohammed cartoons , but remain silent about the acts of Islamist terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda , the Islamic State or Boko Haram .

In his texts, Jeges also takes a critical look at politics, integration and vegetarianism .
