Oliver Scheytt
Oliver Scheytt (born April 14, 1958 in Cologne ) is a German cultural politician , cultural manager , pianist and was a member of the competence team of the SPD chancellor candidate Peer Steinbrück in 2013 and was therefore responsible for art and culture in the shadow cabinet . He studied music at the Folkwang University in Essen and law at the Ruhr University in Bochum . From 2006 to 2011 he was managing director of Ruhr.2010 GmbH and since 2007 he has been professor for cultural policy and cultural infrastructure at the Institute for Cultural Management at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .
Education
In the last four years before graduating from high school in 1976 at the Burggymnasium in Essen, he studied piano at the Folkwang Hochschule. In 1976 he started studying law at the Ruhr University in Bochum and passed the first state examination in 1982. Until his second state examination in law in 1986, he also worked as a research assistant at the Ruhr University. In 1984 he initially took over the project management at the festival “Folkwang 85” in Essen and from 1985 he coordinated the three-year major project “Culture 90” in Wuppertal together with Karl Richter for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . At times at the same time (1986 to 1990) he was head of the general manager's office at the German Association of Cities .
Professional background
Oliver Scheytt obtained his doctorate in 1989. jur. with a dissertation on music schools . Then he was commissioner for the cities in the new federal states until 1993, most recently as head of the Berlin representation of the German Association of Cities. Since 1993 he was first alderman for culture of the city of Essen, then also alderman for education (1997 to 2007), for Grün und Gruga (2001 to 2006) and for youth (2005 to 2007).
From 1997 to 2018 Oliver Scheytt was President of the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft. In 2018, Scheytt no longer ran for election as president.
The successful application “Essen for the Ruhr area. European Capital of Culture 2010 ”he was the moderator from 2004 to 2006. From 2006 to 2011 he and Fritz Pleitgen (as chairman, managing director) shared the management of RUHR.2010 GmbH, the company responsible for preparing and realizing the program for RUHR.2010 - European Capital of Culture .
In 2011 he founded the KULTUREXPERTEN Dr. Scheytt GmbH, with which he offers personnel consulting in the fields of art, culture and city marketing as well as strategy consulting for European capitals of culture.
In 2012 he founded KULTURPERSONAL GmbH, which specializes in e-recruiting , together with Dirk Schütz .
On June 9, 2013, SPD Chancellor candidate Peer Steinbrück announced that he had appointed Scheytt to his competence team for the fields of art and culture; Scheytt was part of the shadow cabinet .
In 2017 Scheytt supported the six-month project “Kulturkooperative Bergischer Kulturraum” of the cities of Wuppertal , Solingen and Remscheid .
Honorary positions
Oliver Scheytt has held numerous honorary posts, including being a board member of the Association of German Music Schools (1993 to 2002), chairman of the NRW KUlturLTURsekretariat (1995 to 2004) and an expert member of the “Culture in Germany” study commission of the German Bundestag (2003–2007 ). From 1998 to 2007 he was on the board of the Zollverein Foundation . From 1997 to 2018 he was President of the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft e. V. in Bonn, since 2002 member of the advisory board of the Federal Cultural Foundation , since 2004 member of the cultural committee of the German UNESCO Commission and since 2009 he has been a member of the general assembly of the Goethe Institute . Scheytt is also a member of the board of directors of the Social Democratic Cultural Forum (SPD) with a focus on cultural education, the European Capital of Culture and cultural policy.
Publications
As an author, he has published numerous publications on cultural policy and cultural management alone and in collaboration with other authors. He is the editor of “ Kulturpolitische Mitteilungen ” and, together with Friedrich Loock , of the continuously updated manual “Kulturmanagement & Kulturpolitik” ( Raabe-Verlag ). Important book publications around 2005 were “Kommunales Kulturrecht. Cultural institutions, cultural funding and cultural events ”( CH Beck ), 2006“ Cultural Management & Cultural Policy ”and 2008“ Cultural State of Germany - Plea for an activating cultural policy ”. In 2012 the Raabe-Verlag published the e-book “Program and project management in the cultural sector. The organization of the European Capital of Culture Ruhr.2010 ”. Together with Simone Raskob and Gabriele Willems, Oliver Scheytt wrote the volume “Die Kulturimmobilie. Plan - build - operate. Examples and Concepts for Success ”( transcript ) published.
Private
Scheytt is married and has three daughters.
