Student quarter Oberwiesenfeld
The student district Oberwiesenfeld , also known colloquially as Studentendorf or, because of its location in the Olympic Park, for short as Olydorf , is a student housing complex in Munich . It is located on the former site of the Olympic Village of the XX. 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. After the student town of Freimann , it is currently the second largest residential complex of the Munich Student Union with around 1953 residents .

The student quarter Oberwiesenfeld is a part of the former Olympic Village, located in the north of Munich in on giant field in the district 11 Milbertshofen between the Middle Ring ( Georg-Brauchle-Ring or Landshuterallee ), the Moosacherstrasse road and Lerchenauerstraße is . The residential complex is embedded in the Olympic Park and is adjacent to the Central University Sports Facility (ZHS) and the sports center of the Technical University of Munich. The main BMW plant with the associated BMW Museum and the BMW World are also in the immediate vicinity .
The streets of the Olympic village were named after pioneers of Olympic sport. The Helene-Mayer-Ring and Connollystrasse run through the student district .

The Olympic village was part of the XX. Olympic Games 1972 built in Munich. In addition to five property development companies that built the men's Olympic village (Oberdorf), the Munich Student Union commissioned the Munich architects Günther Eckert and Werner Wirsing to build a student residence that was used by the organizing committee as the women's Olympic village during the Olympic Games. The bungalows in the south are called today for dorm use and to distinguish it from the student city Freimann as student district or student village called. A high-rise and some of the terrace buildings are also used as student dormitories. Starting in spring 2007, the bungalows were demolished in sections over a period of three years and rebuilt in accordance with listed buildings, as renovating existing buildings would hardly have been cheaper. Of the old bungalows, 12 were originally preserved and renovated. The bungalows were relocated in 2009/2010. By reducing the building width, the number of bungalows increased from 800 to 1,052. The total number of residential units in the student district increased to 1953. The name goes back to the fact that the area is located on the Oberwiesenfeld .

The Olydorf used by students consists of three living areas.
On the one hand there are the 1052 (previously 800) single bungalows. The painting of the bungalow front doors and facades, which was an expression of European youth culture, was characteristic. Due to the renovation of the bungalows for the European Athletics Championships in 2002 , when the student village was once again inhabited by athletes, u. a. the doors exchanged, the painting was therefore partly lost. Before the renovation work began, the bungalows were an extremely popular form of living among students. The mini-houses built with prefabricated reinforced concrete elements are essentially based on the original bungalows from 1972. Werner Wirsing, one of the old architects, was involved in the planning for the new construction of the bungalows. A two-storey maisonette apartment with a kitchenette, bathroom and terrace is available to the residents. In addition, every new resident has the right to design the facade of his bungalow himself.
In the high-rise (Buildings A and B) at Helene-Mayer-Ring 7, 801 students live in single apartments, each with its own kitchenette, bathroom and, after the renovation, without a balcony. After moving into the bungalows again, the high-rise was renovated from 2010 to 2012.
There are also around 100 residential units in family apartments at Connollystrasse 7 to 11, which are occupied by young families with or without children.
Student self-administration
The "Olydorf" residential complex is managed by students themselves in cooperation with the Munich Student Union. For this purpose, house spokespersons are elected directly by the residents every semester. In order to make community life more attractive, the student association in the Olympiazentrum eV was founded in 1974 .
Community center
The old cafeteria of the Olympians now serves primarily as a community center for the students. There are several student-run facilities in the building. These include in particular the OlyDisco, the beer parlor, the Cafe CO2, the Olywood student cinema and various workshops. In addition, the entire community center is used every year for the Olympialust student carnival. After the end of Mardi Gras 2010, a general renovation of the community center is planned.
Transport links
The Olydorf is accessible by an underground line and three bus lines. The Munich underground line U3 has the stops Olympiazentrum in the east and Oberwiesenfeld in the north of the facility. Metrobus line 50 runs north in an east-west direction . The city bus route 173 and the city bus route 180 run east of the student village in north-south direction and the night route N46 on weekends .
