1988 Summer Olympics / Badminton

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Badminton was an exhibition sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul . 32 participants from 10 countries were admitted to the tournaments. Due to the injury of Jalani Sidek shortly before the start of the games and the associated cancellation of the men's doubles with his brother Razif Sidek from Malaysia , the number of participants was reduced to 14 men and 16 women from nine countries. Since all disciplines began with the semi-finals and each player only started in one discipline, the entire badminton competition could be held on one day, September 19, 1988, in the Seoul National University Gymnasium. 2890 paying spectators saw the competitions. 390 officials and helpers ensured that the tournament ran smoothly, with 126 people only being used for badminton and 264 people taking on the table tennis competition.
