United States Team - Silver Medal

South Korea wins bronze

The men's archery team competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics took place on July 27th and 28th. The venue was the Lord's Cricket Ground .

The competition was held for the seventh time after archery returned to the Olympic program. Twelve teams with three athletes each took part.

In addition to the set host Great Britain, eleven starting places were awarded. The eight teams from South Korea, Mexico, the United States, France, Ukraine, the People's Republic of China, Italy and Malaysia qualified at the World Cup in Turin in July 2011, and three more (Japan, India, Chinese Taipei) at the final qualifying tournament in June 2012 in Ogden (USA). The first eleven teams in the world team rankings were represented in London.

Between 2000 and 2008, the South Korean team was Olympic champion three times in a row. In Beijing she won just ahead of the Italian team, also 2000 silver medalists. South Korea has also won the World Cup six times in a row since 2001, most recently in the 2011 final against France. From August 2011, the South Korean team slipped in the world rankings, however, only finished fourth before the games in London. The United States came first in the world, ahead of France and India (as of July 17, 2012).

KO round

Each team completed four sets in which each of the three athletes shot two arrows (a total of six arrows per set and team). If it was still a draw after four sets, a shoot-off with three arrows had to make the decision. In each knockout duel two targets were set up, both teams shot at their respective target at the same time.
