Opera Oder-Spree

Oper Oder Spree is a music festival to promote young singers in Neuzelle , Beeskow and Sauen in the east of Brandenburg .

General

The festival was officially founded in 2001, with an annual opera production and a parallel master class for singing being part of it. This master class has been held at Beeskow Castle since 1991 , led by the chamber singer Jutta Schlegel . Together with the Neuzeller Summer Opera, which has been in production since 1998, it became the Oder Spree opera. Until 2007, Jutta Schlegel was the patron of the project, which is managed by Beeskow Castle and the Neuzelle Abbey Foundation .

The opera production

Since 2001 there has been a merging opera production with the master class. During the course, we will then already see who is suitable for next year's opera. The rest of the cast will be determined through an audition. As an international project, the New Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra annually Sofia committed since 2006 by members of the opera house Russe strengthened. The young singers study the opera under the direction of Jutta Schlegel at the beginning of the year, musically and scenically in Beeskow, in order to then perform it in the selected venues from July to August. With one exception, the operas are given in German translations or the German original language. When selecting operas, it was always important to ensure that pieces from the unknown repertoire were also represented. The following pieces have been performed since 2001:

The master class

In 1991 the chamber singer Jutta Schlegel initiated the "International Opera Course at Beeskow Castle". A popular singer herself during the GDR, she made it her business to teach young opera singers. More and more singers from Eastern Europe also came and even Chinese students find their way from their home country to Neuzelle again and again. As part of the opera course, practice-oriented concerts soon developed, in which the students regularly demonstrate their skills. These include the "Festive Song Recital" at Beeskow Castle, the "Opera in the Barn" in the Kunstscheune in Sauen and the "Festive Opera Gala" in Neuzelle and Beeskow, accompanied by the Brandenburg State Orchestra . Every year three main prizes with scholarships are awarded at this gala. a. the "Grand Prix Oder-Spree". In the beginning of 1991 the internationally celebrated soprano Ricarda Merbeth also took part in the opera course.
