In the Balancing Rock National Park, Ranger Cal is assigned volunteer ranger Hobart Moss by his superior Marge, with whom he is in constant dispute. Cal likes his job, but always wanted to be a ranger in a national park in Hawaii . There's not much going on in Balancing Rock, so Cal is content to take their marijuana from camping teenagers . He suspects they had overturned the garbage cans in front of the reception the night before. Hobart doubts, the barrels themselves are very dented. He suspects a bear attack or even the appearance of the legendary Bigfoot . Meanwhile, two canoeists are killed on the river in the national park. Cal and Hobart find their colleague Edward dead while cleaning the toilet. He seems to have fled from something in the outhouse and died in it.

After buying marijuana, Cal had pretended to Hobart that he had to test the marijuana himself to make sure what the substance was. Hobart had passed this on to Marge, who is now having an unannounced drug test done. Cal knows that if the results of the investigation become known, he will be released. He wants to use the time to keep things tidy. Because he is woken up at night by distant drumming and cannot fall asleep again, the next day he goes to the campsite of the youths whom he suspects is behind the noise. However, the place is devastated. With Hobart he searches the area and finds the impaled head of a youth. Both men are shot at by arrows as they escape to the car. The national park is being evacuated. Hobart forgets to evacuate the golf course and they both later find it orphaned. However, the scenery suggests a fight and Hobart finds a strange tooth stuck in a golf ball. Shortly afterwards they both discover the battered body of the receptionist Marvin in the reception. In the next room they surprise a creature who turns out to be an orc . Both are saved by Marge, who shoots the creature down, but is killed by a second orc. They both flee and meet Katie in the woods. The environmental activist and Cal have known each other for a long time and have developed a kind of love-hate relationship. Katie fights against a mine near the national park and uses criminal methods in the process. She was heading to the mine with explosives when she was attacked by orcs. She managed to kill one and take his weapons away from him. She believes the orcs are the result of a government experiment.

The three of them decide to fight the orcs. You organize the key to the ranger station's gun locker, which is lost. Katie can still gain access. In the ranger station they meet Dan, the drug commissioner, who had recently taken Cal's urine sample. The four of them stock up on weapons. Since orcs don't like brightness, the four searchlights installed on the roof of the station. The orcs attack the station soon after, and all four manage to kill numerous orcs. Dan is killed in the fighting, but he gives Cal his urine sample shortly before he dies. Over time, Cal, Hobart and Katie are pushed back. Hobart is injured and flees with the other two over the protective cellar into the forest. Cal manages to shoot a gas pipe and then light a fire. The orcs are killed in the explosion. Cal and Katie jointly kill one last surviving orc. Some time later, Cal and Hobart are rangers in a national park in Hawaii. Katie is also there and everyone is happy about the peaceful job. They don't know that there is a cave with orcs here too.
