traffic

Orinoca is 162 kilometers by road south of Oruro , the capital of the department of the same name.

Until a few years ago, the village could only be reached via unpaved road links and a bus service ran to it twice a week. However, since Evo Morales , who comes from the Orinoca region, was elected president, the region has seen an upgrade and can now be reached at least from the south via Pampa Aullagas and Santuario de Quillacas on an asphalt road.

From the north, from Oruro, the unpaved highway Ruta 12 leads in a south-westerly direction 62 kilometers via Toledo to Villa Copacabana . From there, an unpaved road branches off to the south, which leads via Laca Laca Quita Quita to Andamarca and Eduardo Avaroa and from there to Orinoca . From here the road continues in a south-westerly direction to the village of Pampa Aullagas on the southern edge of Lake Poopó.

On January 8, 2016, the trucks for the 2016 Dakar Rally will pass Orinoca.

population

After the population of the village had more than halved in the decade from 1992 to 2001, it has since increased several times over:

year Residents source
1992 389 census
2001 163 census
2012 638 census

Sons and daughters of the place

The Bolivian President Evo Morales comes from the village of Isallavi near Orinoca.
