The Orka is a measuring ship of the Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Office .

history

The ship was ordered by the Mechanical Engineering North department for the Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Authority at the time. It was built under construction number 2030 at the Fassmer shipyard in Berne / Motzen and handed over to the Brunsbüttel Water and Shipping Authority on May 12, 2006.

The name is composed of the first letters of " Or tungs- Ka together Tamaran". The former direction finding ship Karl Hayssen was replaced by the Orka .

commitment

The ship is used for sounding and hydrological measurements as well as supervision and control trips on the Kiel Canal , the Gieselau Canal and the tributaries of the Lower Elbe . It is designed as a catamaran and has a more stable position in the water compared to a monohull ship and is less heeled .

Technical data and equipment

The Orka is powered by two Volvo diesel engines with an output of 153  kW each. The motors act on two rudder propellers via gears .

The ship is equipped with an echo sounder for survey work . It has two telescopic sighting booms, each 3.3 m long. The total width of the measured area is 15 m.

A hydraulic crane is located on the starboard side in the fore ship area. The fixed point height of the ship is 5 m. The ship has a range of 1,200  nautical miles .
