Life

Osunlade, who grew up in St. Louis in the US state of Missouri , has been involved with music from an early age. At the age of 7 he discovered the piano and at the age of 12 he wrote his first own pieces of music. He later founded various bands and taught himself to play various musical instruments. In 1988 he met the choreographer and singer Toni Basil on a trip to Hollywood , who integrated him in various music projects. Among other things, Osunlade was involved in the development of pieces of music for the television series Sesame Street . He also produced pieces of music for Luca Bercovici's horror comedy Rockula , published in 1990 .

He then moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles, where he became a music producer. In 1991 he produced parts of Gerardo Mejía's debut album Mo 'Ritmo for Interscope Records , which was best known for the hit single Rico Suave . The single received a gold record from the RIAA .

Due to Gerardo Mejía's chart successes, Osunlade also received new orders as a producer. Over the next ten years he was involved in the production of more than 20 albums. Among other things, he produced pieces of music for albums by Candy Dulfer ( Sax-A-Go-Go , 1993), Eric Gable ( Process Of Elimination , 1994), BlackGirl ( Treat U Right , 1994), Marion Meadows ( Forbidden Fruit , 1994), Najee ( Share My World , 1994), Freddie Jackson ( Here It Is , 1994), Toshi Kubota ( Sunlight, Moonlight , 1995), Eric Benét ( True To Myself , 1996) and Patti Labelle ( Flame , 1997). At the end of the 1990s he increasingly withdrew from working for the major labels in order to devote himself to his own productions.

At the same time, Osunlade increasingly dealt with the West African religion of the Yoruba and its central instrument for coping with life, the Ifá oracle . In 1999 he founded his own music label Yoruba Records . The first publications followed under the stage name Osunlade , which refers to the African deity Oshun and means crown of the Oshun . In 2000 the retrospective Yoruba Records appeared on Yoruba : El Primer Año . His actual debut album Paradigm was released in 2001 on Soul Jazz Records.

This was followed by albums on labels such as BBE and Strictly Rhythm. In addition to his studio albums, Osunlade produced and published various DJ mix compilations, including Offering (2002) and Re-Offering (2005). For some time Osunlade lived and worked in Puerto Rico and later on the Greek island of Santorini , where he was also inspired for his 2006 album Aquarian Moon . Also in 2006, Osunlade released a cover version of the Prince song Crazy You from his debut album For You .

In Germany, Osunlades' single Envision , published in 2011 on Innervisions , became one of the club hits of the year. The Envision remixes with reworking by Âme and Dixon were also successful and were voted the best single of 2011 by the readers of De: Bug .
