Otto Ludwig Karl Richard Bollnow (born June 18, 1877 in Latzow ; † March 31, 1959 in Wilhelmshaven ) was a German school teacher and local researcher in Pomerania .

Life

Otto Bollnow, son of the school teacher Carl Bollnow, like his father, chose the teaching profession and first attended the preparation institute in Tribsees and then the teachers' seminar in Franzburg . He then worked for two years as a private tutor in Davos , Switzerland, then as a school teacher in his native Pomerania, initially in Eldena and Greifswald .

From 1902 to 1914 he worked in Stettin , most recently at the 2nd girls' middle school. In Szczecin he was involved in the teachers' association for reforms in the school system. In 1914 he became school principal at the 3rd elementary school in Anklam . In Anklam he worked as a local researcher and published small collections of Low German literature. He was a co-founder of the Heimatmuseum, now the Museum im Steintor , published the local calendar and published several local history publications.

After his retirement in 1936 he moved to Hohenkrug-Buchholz near Stettin. During the Second World War he was reactivated as a school teacher. After 1945 he lived in Freest , from where he moved to his son Hermann Bollnow in Wilhelmshaven in 1956 , where he died in 1959.

The prehistorian Otto Kunkel , museum director in Stettin from 1927 to 1945, describes Bollnow's commitment as a local researcher: “With his intellectual open-mindedness, he was not a mere propagandist of sentimentality that moved home, but rather warm-hearted, sober, deceptive reflections, with no illusions with regard to the present function of his 'hobbies'.
