Otto Fischer (born April 2, 1915 in Wald , † October 22, 1993 in Bern ; resident in Bern and Wald) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

Life

Fischer was born as the son of a textile manufacturer from the Zurich Oberland . After visiting the schools in the forest and the trade Matura at the Kantonsschule Zurich , he studied economics at the Universities of Geneva , Bern and Rome . He was in Geneva with the dissertation L'influence of fluctuations monétaires sur les bilans et le problème de la reevaluation (1940) to Dr. ès sc. ec. PhD .

From 1941 to 1948 he worked for the federal price control in Bern and Montreux. From 1948 to 1979 he was with the Swiss Trade Association , initially as a department head in the secretariat, from 1950 as executive secretary and finally from 1963 to 1979 as director.

Fischer was married.

Fischer was a member of the National Council from 1967 to 1983 .

Fischer was a conservative politician who defended himself against state interference in the economy and an open foreign policy. He shaped the trade association into a determining power factor in Swiss politics. Fischer was managing director and vice-president of the campaign for an independent and neutral Switzerland .
