Markus Kündig

Markus Kündig (born October 12, 1931 in Zug ; † November 13, 2011 ; resident in Sarmenstorf ) was a Swiss entrepreneur , association official and politician ( CVP ).

Kündig was born as the son of the printer's owner , long-time president of the Zug trade association and conservative politician Josef Kündig . He attended high school in Zug and Stans , the commercial school in Freiburg and the Zurich School of Applied Arts . Kündig trained as a book printer in Zurich , England and Germany . From 1956 he worked in his father's company, which he took over in 1964 and ran until 1999.

From 1978 to 1987 he was President of the Association of Graphic Companies and from 1984 to 1998 of the Association of the Swiss Advertising Industry . From 1982 to 1991 he presided over the Swiss Trade Association . Kündig was a member of the board of directors of Schweizerische Bankgesellschaft and UBS from 1982 to 2002 . From 1983 to 1998 he was a member of the board of directors of Zurich Insurance Company . In the 1990s, Kündig played a key role in the merger of the three Lucerne daily newspapers into the Neue Luzerner Zeitung .

Kündig was a member of the Zug municipal council from 1963 to 1974 , which he chaired in 1971/72. From 1975 to 1988 he was a Cantonal Councilor in Zug . From March 4, 1974 to December 16, 1994, Kündig was a member of the Council of States of the Canton of Zug. He was president of the Council of States commission for drafting the law on occupational benefits . In 1984/1985 he presided over the Council of States.
