Otto Friedrich von Ilow

Otto Friedrich von Ilow (born April 1727 in Schmagorei ; † November 11, 1792 in Koblenz ) was Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 7 .

Life

Otto Friedrich was the son of Detleff Oskar von Ilow, Herr auf Schmagorei, and his wife Magdalene Tugendreich, née von Ilow.

Military career

After two years as a cadet in Berlin , Ilow was hired on May 17, 1744 as a non-commissioned officer in the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps of the Prussian Army . With this he took part in the Battle of Kesselsdorf during the Second Silesian War . On May 27, 1746, Ilow joined the Leib-Carabiniersregiment No. 11 as a cornet and was promoted to lieutenant on June 8, 1755.

Ilow fought with his cuirassiers in the 1756/63 campaign near Lobositz , Prague , Kolin , Roßbach , Kay and Kunersdorf . In the meantime, he had been promoted to Chief Staff Officer on June 7, 1759 . At the same time as the following promotion to Rittmeister Ilow was appointed squadron chief on June 11, 1761 . After the beginning of the War of the Bavarian Succession he became a major .

In 1780 and 1782 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and colonel, respectively . As such, Ilow became commander of the Leib-Carabiniersregiment no. 11 on June 1, 1788. Friedrich Wilhelm II handed him over to him on July 11, 1788 as chief of the cuirassier regiment "Graf von Kalckreuth" no. 7 and promoted him the following year to major general. On the occasion of the revue near Magdeburg , Ilow received the order Pour le Mérite .

In July 1792 Ilow moved with his regiment to Koblenz, where he died on November 11, 1792.

Ilow had married Elisabeth Sophie Albertine von der Hagen (born September 6, 1727 - May 25, 1799), widowed von Plotho , on November 28, 1784 in Rathenow . The marriage remained childless.
