Otto Haag (born June 7, 1906 in Heilbronn ; † August 31, 1991 there ) was a German wine grower and politician (FDP / DVP).

Life

Otto Haag came from a Heilbronn family of winemakers; his ancestors had been in viticulture for over 250 years. The family had also been politically active since the end of the 19th century; his father Heinrich Haag , his grandfather Wilhelm Haag and his great-grandfather Martin Haag had all been members of the Reichstag , the grandfather also a member of the state parliament. All three were also board members of various Weingärtner clubs and associations.

From 1912 to 1921 Otto Haag attended elementary and secondary school in Heilbronn. From his father and in the winter course at the viticulture school in Weinsberg, he learned the wine-making trade and worked in his parents' business, which he then took over. After the factory was destroyed in the air raid on Heilbronn on December 4, 1944, he rebuilt it from 1945 onwards.

In the post-war period he was involved in the Protestant parish council of Heilbronn and was the conductor of a church choir. From 1955 to 1964 he was president of the Württemberg-Baden winegrowing association , and then from 1965 to 1972 he was president of the Württemberg wine-growing association . During his tenure, he supported many vineyard consolidations and new wine cellars in the Württemberg wine-growing region .

In 1956 he followed the family tradition and became a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg for the FDP / DVP . He won a second mandate in the Heilbronn-Land II constituency . In the next election in 1960 he was not re-elected, but moved to the state parliament for a few days after the death of the MP Gottlieb Leeger via a second mandate in the Stuttgart 3 constituency. From 1965 to 1971 he was a member of the Heilbronn municipal council as a councilor of the FDP / DVP.

Haag was interested in nature and landscape protection as well as the history of viticulture in Württemberg and supported the establishment of a viticulture museum in Heilbronn. In the form of a permanent exhibition on viticulture in the Alter Milchhof , this museum was finally opened in 1990 as part of the Heilbronn Municipal Museum , but closed again in 2004 for cost reasons. In addition to numerous specialist articles on viticulture, Haag also published articles on local history. Parts of his estate are in the Heilbronn City Archives .
