Otto Heinrich Friedrich von Borch (born April 4, 1723 on trenches ; † March 27, 1799 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian major general , head of the regiment and heir to trenches and turnless.

Life

origin

His parents were Johann Christoph von Borch (* September 7, 1691; † June 7, 1751) and his wife Dorothea Sidonie, born von der Borch († July 12, 1761) from the Gräben family, widowed von Thümen . His father was a Prussian lieutenant in the infantry regiment "Jung-Bornstedt" and heir to trenches in the Duchy of Magdeburg .

Military career

In 1740 Borch joined the Graevenitz infantry regiment as a free corporal . He marched with the regiment to Silesia in 1740 as part of the First Silesian War . On April 10, 1741, he was flying the regiment's flag at the Battle of Mollwitz when a musket ball smashed the flagpole without injuring him. He then came to the siege of Brieg. In 1743 he became an ensign . In the Second Silesian War he fought in the battle of Hohenfriedberg , Habelschwerdt and Braunau, and Kesselsdorf . He survived all battles unharmed. On October 10, 1746 he became second lieutenant . In 1756 he became a lieutenant and was injured in the shoulder in the battle of Lobositz . In Kolin , he received a shot in the loin, fell into Austrian captivity and was interned in Krens. In the spring of 1758 it was exchanged and returned to his regiment. Then he took part in the siege of Olomouc and the battle of Hochkirch . During this battle he was hit in the head and was captured again. It came to Moravia and was replaced just eight weeks later. During this time he was promoted to captain on February 3, 1759 and received his own company on his return . With it he took part in the battle of Torgau , where he was hit in the shoulder by a grape ball . In the battle near Töplitz in 1761, the horse was shot in the body. In the battle he already proved himself with the tasks of a major (but without the formal rank). In the battle of Freiberg he was able to distinguish himself again: The Austrians had occupied a wood and built a hill with six cannons on its left flank. From there the “Stutterheim” regiment was taken under fire. Without a higher order, Borch took the division and led it personally towards the hill. They managed to storm the hill and capture the cannons. A captain was captured and several ammunition wagons were captured. For this he was particularly praised by Prince Heinrich.

In 1768 he became a major and on May 31, 1773 a lieutenant colonel . He received the order Pour le Mérite in 1774. During the War of the Bavarian Succession he was transferred to the “Saldern” regiment. On June 9, 1779 he became a colonel and on May 20, 1787 major general. On June 1, 1788, he received the regiment "Schwarz" in Neisse from the king . In 1794 he gave up his regiment and died in Magdeburg in 1799.

family
