Location of Ovelgönne in Lower Saxony

Ovelgönne ( Low German Öbergünn ) is a district of Buxtehude in the southeastern district of Stade , Lower Saxony . Ovelgönne and Ketzendorf together form the village of Ovelgönne / Ketzendorf.

Neighboring communities

In the northeast, Ovelgönne borders on Neu Wulmstorf , in the southeast on Wulmstorf and Daerstorf , in the south on Ketzendorf , in the southwest on Immenbeck and in the northwest on Eilendorfermoor and Ostmoor .

history

Finds in the transition to Ketzendorf indicate a settlement of the area in an early section of the Middle Stone Age or Magdalenian ( Hamburg level ).

The Spitzwecken from Ovelgönne with an attempt at reconstruction

In 1952 the Spitzwecken from Ovelgönne was found . It is part of from the Pre-Roman Iron Age dating bun .

The watermill at Ketzenbeek

Ovelgönne was first mentioned in a document in 1566. Detlef Schwar built the overshot water mill on Ketzenbeek in 1674 , which was in operation until 1936 and is now run as a village community center, cultural monument and wedding room.

The historian Artur Conrad Förste attributes the place name to the Middle Low German word for resentment. This could have arisen as Övelgünne during the border disputes of the 16th century between the Hamburg dukes and the city of Buxtehude. The change to today's (Low German) pronunciation Öbergünn (with r) corresponds to the general language development of Low German in the Nordheide with its transition from l to r .

From 1810 to 1814 Ovelgönne was in Mairie Moisburg and thus over the canton of Buxtehude , the Arrondissement of Lüneburg and the Département des Bouches de l'Elbe in the French Empire and had 105 inhabitants. Subsequently it was in the Moisburg office ( Landdrostei Lüneburg ) until 1859 , then in the Tostedt office ( Harburg district ) until 1885 .
