Oxydemeton-methyl (often incorrectly spelled Oxydemethon-methyl ) is a 1: 1 mixture ( racemate ) of two isomeric chemical compounds from the groups of thiophosphoric acid esters and sulfoxides . It is classified as toxic and dangerous to the environment. Oxydemeton-methyl is a cholinesterase inhibitor , acts as a systemic insecticide and was brought onto the market by Bayer AG in 1960.

Isomerism

As an unsymmetrical sulfoxide, Oxydemeton-methyl has a stereocenter on the sulfur atom, so the sulfoxide group is chiral . Thus there are two enantiomers, ( R ) -oxydemeton-methyl and the mirror image ( S ) -oxydemeton-methyl. Oxydemeton-methyl is used as a racemate [1: 1 mixture of ( R ) -oxydemeton-methyl and ( S ) -oxydemeton-methyl].

use

Oxydemethon-methyl is used as a systemic insecticide and acaricide . It is used to combat spider mites , aphids , saw wasps , leaf fleas and other sucking insects.
