Pétanque World Championship 2007
The 43rd Senior Pétanque World Championships took place from September 20 to 24, 2007 in Pattaya , Thailand . At the same time, the 8th World Championships were held in the Tir de Précision ( precision shooting ). Men and women, but also Espoirs and Juniors, are admitted to the Seniors Championships . Women did not take part in the 2007 World Cup.
The Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal (FIPJP) organizes the world championships annually.
50 of the 72 nations organized in (FIPJP) competed for the 43rd World Cup.
With 40,000 (as of December 31, 2006) athletes, Thailand is the second strongest pétanque nation behind France (367,247 athletes). Pétanque was introduced in Thailand by the current Queen Mother, who got to know and appreciate this boules sport as a young woman in France and Switzerland. Pétanque is promoted in Thailand, there are many sports soldiers in this discipline.
The German Pétanque Association (DPV) is the sixth largest pétanque association with 14,129 athletes , behind the associations in Spain (29,115), Algeria (19,716) and that of the Netherlands (17,880). The Switzerland has 3482, Austria 262 petanque athletes.
The 43rd World Championships was the most successful for the DPV so far, as they achieved fifth place in both triplet and precision shooting .
Triplets
Like all international championships in the boules sport pétanque , triplet was also played at the 43rd World Cup . The hosts Thailand and last year's world champion France each provided two teams, all other nations one team.
Preliminary round
In the first round, 8 groups with 6 to 7 teams were played against each other. The top four qualified for the 1/16 finals. The eliminated teams continued to play in the Nations Cup.
The German team (Jannik Schaake ( Sandhofen ) / Jan Garner ( Hanover ) / Martin Kuball ( Hamburg ) / Patrick Abdelhak ( Konstanz )) played in Group C. They only lost against the favorites and eventual world champions France 1 and against Vietnam . Croatia played in the same groups , whose team consisted of players playing in Germany (Tino Capin ( Berlin ) / Stipe Mamic ( Grünwinkel ) / Ante Šolic (Berlin) / Michael Tekath ( Viernheim )). The Germans won the prestige duel.
Germany finished second behind France 2 and Croatia third.
France 1 came first in Group D, while hosts Thailand could only advance to the next round with one team. Switzerland qualified fourth in group B. Austria finished fourth in group A.

1/16 finals (poule round)
Poule was played in the 1/16 final . Poules are groups of four teams. The winners and losers of the 1st game play against each other. The winner of the winning game is directly qualified for the next round. The winner of the losing game and the loser of the winning game play a barrage . The winner is qualified for the next round. The losers of the loser game and the barrage continue to play in the Nations Cup.
Germany was able to qualify for the next round as second in Poules V behind France 1. They were able to win against New Zealand 13: 4, lost in the winning game 13: 1 against France 1 and finally won the Barrage against New Zealand.
Switzerland lost in Poule W game 1 against Sweden , won the loser game at 13:10 against Estonia and won the barrage against Sweden 13:12.
Austria was eliminated in Group X with two defeats against Morocco (3:13) and Canada (7:13) and continued to play in the Nations Cup.

1/8 final poule round
Poule was also played in the 1/8 final. The system can be followed using the colored markings.
Germany played strong in this round and qualified first in Poule 4 without defeat. Switzerland was eliminated with two defeats in Poule 2.

Final round
Germany was eliminated in the 1/4 finals and finished fifth like in 2006 and 1996. These are the best German results.
World champion was France 1. France 2 lost in the 1/4 final against Madagascar 0:13. Madagascar then became vice world champion. Italy and Tunisia finished third.
Record champions France became world champions for the 24th time and won their 51st medal.
The 1999 world champion Madagascar won his second silver medal, his third medal overall.
Tunisia, third behind Switzerland in the medal table , won its 4th bronze medal (3 × gold, 7 × silver) and now has 14 medals, placing it in second place behind France and ahead of Belgium (13).
The three-time world champion Italy won his 4th bronze medal.

Nations Cup
The teams eliminated in the first round will play for the Nations Cup.
Austria was eliminated in the 2nd round of poule, Croatia reached the quarter-finals in its 1st World Cup participation.
Belgium won the final. Until 2005, Belgium was often France's greatest competitor, was world champion for the second time in 2000 and won 6 silver and 5 bronze medals. In 2006 Belgium failed in the 1/8 final, in 2007 the World Cup tournament was already over in the 1/16 final.

Precision Shooting (Tir de precision)
The 18-year-old Jannik Schaake was the first German to qualify directly as fourth in the preliminary round in precision shooting . There he lost to the French Pascal Milei. The 5th place, which Sascha Koch also occupies, is the best placement of a German tireur.
The Swiss Tuong van Nguyen qualified seventh for the Repêchage, but retired there and finished 15th. The Austrian Sorio Oscar retired as 31st in the preliminary round.
Madagascar won its first world title in this 200 first-time discipline and improved with a total of 4 medals (2 × silver, 1 × bronze).
France added a silver one to its 4 gold medals so far. French Polynesia and Morocco won their first (bronze) medals.
