PEN center for German-speaking authors abroad

The PEN Center for German-Speaking Authors Abroad is a member of the International PEN It was founded in 1934 by Lion Feuchtwanger , Ernst Toller , Max Herrmann-Neiße and Rudolf Olden in Great Britain under the name “German PEN Club in Exile” and in 1948 as “PEN- Center of German-Speaking Authors Abroad ”. The center had its official seat in London until 2005. Since 2006 it has been based at the place of residence of the respective executive secretary.

This PEN center was at times called Exil-PEN

Since 2017, the PEN Center for German-Speaking Authors Abroad has been awarding the OVID Prize every second year for an outstanding literary book publication in one of the three categories of poetry, essay, novel or narrative prose to an author who has written in German over 35 years. In 2017 Guy Stern received the OVID Prize for his life's work, in 2018 Herta Müller was awarded the prize.

Hubert Dammer is the managing director, Gino Leineweber is chairman of the association.
