The Panjkora is a right tributary of the Swat in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa .
The Panjkora rises in the glaciated part of the Hinduraj on the border with the Chitral district . From there it flows through the two districts Upper Dir and Lower Dir in a predominantly south-westerly direction. It flows 4 km south of the main town of Dir . Finally, 25 km west of Chakdara, it flows into the west-flowing Swat, whose most important tributary is the Panjkora. The last 15 km the river forms the border to the Bajaur Agency ( tribal areas under federal administration ) to the west . On this lowest section of the river, the Panjkora cuts through a mountain range in a southerly direction and flows through a deep gorge. The Panjkora has a length of approx. 220 km.
The National Highway 45 follows the city you the river over a distance of 75 km before turning 15 km above the mouth to the east. There are numerous archaeological sites along the river.
