The Lower Dir District is an administrative district in Pakistan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of Timergara .
The district has an area of 1582 km² and according to the 2017 census 1,435,917 inhabitants. The population density is 908 inhabitants / km².

The district is located in the north of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
history
The district was created in 1992 when the Dir district was split into Upper Dir and Lower Dir.
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew by 3.71% annually. About 3% of the population live in urban areas and about 97% in rural areas. 710,335 men, 725,576 women and 6 transgender people live in 155,338 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 97.9 men per 100 women and thus a rare surplus of women for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 58% (women: 36%, men: 79%) and thus above the average for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of 53%.
