Mardan District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name, Mardan .
The district has an area of 996 km² and according to the 2017 census 2,373,061 inhabitants. The population density is 1643 inhabitants / km².

The district is located in the center of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, which is in the north of Pakistan.
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew at an annual rate of 2.58%. About 19% of the population live in urban regions and about 81% in rural regions. 1,200,871 men, 1,172,112 women and 78 transgender people live in 311,868 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 102.5 men per 100 women, which is a common surplus for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 52% (women: 34%, men: 71%) and thus slightly below the average for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of 53%.
