Kohat District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Kohat .
The district has an area of 2545 km² and according to the census of 2017 993,874 inhabitants. The population density is 391 inhabitants / km².

The district is located in the east of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, which is in the north of Pakistan.
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew by 3.03% annually. Around 27% of the population live in urban regions and around 73% in rural regions. The gender ratio is 99.7 men per 100 women and thus results in a rare excess of women for Pakistan. The main languages spoken in the district are Pashto and Hindko .
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 52% (women: 33%, men: 74%) and thus slightly below the average for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of 53%.
