Hangu District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Hangu .

The district has an area of ​​1097 km² and, according to the 2017 census, 518,798 inhabitants. The population density is 473 inhabitants / km².

The district is located in the center of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, which is in the north of Pakistan.

history

The district was created in 1996 from parts of Kohat .

Demographics

Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew by 2.66% annually. Around 20% of the population live in urban regions and around 80% in rural regions. 249,554 men, 269,237 women and 9 transgender people live in 48,270 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 92.7 men per 100 women and thus a rare surplus of women for Pakistan.

The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 43% (women: 17%, men: 71%) and thus below the average of 53% in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
