The Orakzai District is an administrative district in Pakistan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province . The district administration is based in the settlements of Ghiljo Bazar and Kalaya .
The district has an area of 1538 km² and according to the census of 2017 254,356 inhabitants. The population density is 165 inhabitants / km².
Orakzai is a stronghold of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan . Fighting with the Pakistani Army has been taking place since 2010 .

The district is located in the central part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, which is located in northern Pakistan.
history
From 1973 the area belonged to the tribal areas under federal administration . In 2018 the tribal areas were dissolved and Orakzai became part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province as a district.
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew by 0.64% annually. The population lives entirely in rural areas and there are no cities. The gender ratio is 100.5 men per 100 women and thus results in a frequent male surplus for Pakistan. The Pashto language is predominantly spoken in the district. The population belongs to the Orakzai tribe.
