The Bannu District is an administrative district in Pakistan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Bannu .
The district has an area of 1,227 km² and, according to the 2017 census, 1,167,892 inhabitants. The population density is 952 inhabitants / km².

The district is located in the south of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, which is in the north of Pakistan.
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew by 2.92% annually. Around 27% of the population live in urban regions and around 73% in rural regions. 593,492 men, 574,391 women and 9 transgender people live in 119,993 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 103.3 men per 100 women, which is a common surplus for Pakistan. The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 55% (women: 28%, men: 81%) and thus above the average for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of 53%.
