Haripur District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Haripur .
The district has an area of 1725 km² and according to the census of 2017 1,003,031 inhabitants. The population density is 581 inhabitants / km².
geography
The district is located in the northeast of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is located in the north of Pakistan and borders on the capital city of Islamabad .
history
The district was created in 1991 from parts of Abbottabad .
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew by 1.97% annually. Around 7% of the population live in urban regions and around 93% in rural regions. 498,481 men, 504,483 women and 67 transgender people live in 163,490 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 98.8 men per 100 women and thus a rare surplus of women for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 69% (women: 59%, men: 81%) and thus well above the average for the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of 53%.
