Tank District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province . Seat of the district administration is the city tank .
The district has an area of 1679 km² and according to the 2017 census 391,885 inhabitants. The population density is 233 inhabitants / km².

The district is located in the south of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
history
The district was created in 1992 from parts of Dera Ismail Khan .
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew by 2.65% annually. Around 12% of the population live in urban regions and around 88% in rural regions. 200,687 men, 191,194 women and 4 transgender people live in 43,071 households , which results in a gender ratio of 105 men per 100 women and thus a frequent surplus of men for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 43% (women: 22%, men: 64%) and thus below the average of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of 53%.
