Christian Panucci (born April 12, 1973 in Savona , Italy ) is a former Italian football player and current coach .

Player career

In the club

Christian Panucci was a tough and tough defender. He made his debut in the 1992/93 season with his former club Genoa in Serie A . Then he was under contract with several clubs, u. a. at AC Milan , Real Madrid and AS Roma . After AS Roma did not renew his contract, he moved to FC Parma in 2009 on a free transfer . On February 23, 2010, the early termination of his contract with FC Parma was announced. Panucci gave personal reasons as the motive. Eventually it was announced that he has retired due to his relationship with model Rosaria Cannavo.

In the national team

Panucci made his debut in the Italian national team in 1994. However, he did not play his first major tournament until the age of 29 at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea . In 2007 he made his comeback for Italy after a three-year break. With his goal in the preliminary round of the European Championship in 2008 against Romania , Panucci became the oldest Italian national player to score an international goal at the age of 35 years, two months and one day. He had to hand this record over to Fabio Quagliarella on March 26, 2019 , who scored for Italy at the age of 36 years and 54 days.

Coaching career

After working as assistant to Fabio Capello for the Russian national team from 2012 to 2014 , Panucci was coach at Serie B club AS Livorno from March 2015 . He appointed Stefano Eranio as assistant coach . In 2017 he became the new coach of the Albanian national football team . After one and a half years, on March 23, 2019, the collaboration was ended after the national team's performance had deteriorated significantly (15 games, nine of which were lost).
