Paradise Hills is a Spanish science Ficiton - thriller from the year 2019 with Emma Roberts in the title role. It is Alice Waddington's debut film . The film had its world premiere on January 26, 2019 at the Sundance Film Festival and was released in German cinemas on August 29, 2019.

When Uma wakes up alone on a remote island, she fears the worst. Paradise Hills is a boarding school that cares for the emotional maturity of young, privileged girls and wants to raise them to be fine ladies. But behind the pink entrance doors and the fairytale-like rooms, Uma and her classmates discover a dark secret.

In November 2017, it was announced that Emma Roberts and Danielle Macdonald had joined the cast. The announcement for Eiza González followed in March 2018 . Milla Jovovich , Jeremy Irvine and Awkwafina joined the cast in April 2018.

Shooting began in April 2018. Most of the recordings were made in the Spanish community of Gáldar on Gran Canaria and in Barcelona .

criticism

The film received the approval of 64 percent of all Rotten Tomatoes reviews and achieved a rating of 6.4 out of a possible 10 points.

Hollywood Reporter's Leslie Felperin wrote, "Words cannot do justice to the truly lavish sets and costumes shown here, which are so dazzling, intricate and bizarre that they serve as a useful distraction."

Louisa Moore of Screen Zealots also said: "Sometimes a film is so well made and arouses so much interest that it would be a shame not to simply applaud for the effort."
