Danielle Macdonald (born May 19, 1991 in Sydney ) is an Australian film actress .

Life

Danielle Macdonald was born in Sydney in 1991 and studied at the Australian Institute for Performing Arts in Naremburn, New South Wales . At the age of 18, Macdonald moved to Los Angeles, where she received her first role in the short film The Thief (2010) from Glamor Reel Moments and starred with Joel Edgerton and Rosemarie DeWitt . Between 2011 and 2016, Macdonald made guest appearances on the television series Glee , Pretty Little Liars , 2 Broke Girls , Toolies , The Middle and American Horror Story .

Macdonald received her first film role in The East , which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. She got her first leading role in the film Patti Cake $ by Geremy Jasper, which also premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was later presented at the Cannes Film Festival . Macdonald has been compared to actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence and Gabourey Sidibe for her role . Although she is Australian, Macdonald plays the New Jersey-based up-and-coming rapper Patricia Dombrowski, known as Patti, who is looking for a producer to give her access to the hip-hop scene. Macdonald, who not only had to study American slang for the film, but also had no experience of rapping, regularly worked in the studio with her coach, the New York rapper and ghostwriter Skylar Skyzoo Taylor, on a genre- typical interpretation and her body language. Jasper sent Macdonald new hip-hop songs every week for two and a half years to rehearse them.

Macdonald received another leading role in the film White Girl Problems by Nahnatchka Khan.

Anke Sterneborg writes in epd Film about Macdonald that, like Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson , the Australian has emancipated herself from all common ideals of beauty.
