The establishment as an independent municipality was decided by law No. 790 of November 14, 1951 and came into force on December 14, 1952 after the required local elections for the municipal council.
City structure and city administration
The municipality has been divided into five districts since 1979: Paranavaí, Cristo Rei, Deputado José Alonso, Graciosa and Sumaré. These include around 50 bairros.
City prefect (mayor) was Rogério Lorenzetti ( PMDB ) for the 2013 to 2016 term of office , who no longer ran in the 2016 local elections. As the new incumbent city prefect since January 1, 2017, "Caique" Carlos Henrique Rossato Gomes of the PSDB was elected with 26,576 votes .
The legislature lies with the Câmara Municipal, the city council or city council made up of ten elected members.
