Pari is a district of Civitella Paganico in the province of Grosseto , Tuscany region in Italy .

geography

The place is about 6 km northeast of the capital Civitella Marittima and about 40 km northeast of the provincial capital Grosseto just south of the tributary of the Farma in the Merse and west of the tributary of the Merse in the Ombrone . The place is 377  m slm and has about 200 inhabitants. Neighboring towns are Bagni di Petriolo (approx. 2 km northwest, today part of the municipality of Monticiano ) and Casal di Pari (also Casale di Pari , approx. 2.5 km southwest, belongs to Civitella Paganico).

history

The place was first documented in 1108 in the maps of the Badia Ardenghesca (Abbazia di San Lorenzo al Lanzo). The place initially belonged as a fief to the Counts Ardengheschi , then the place was gradually subjugated by the Republic of Siena between 1179 and 1254 . The Buonsignori family from Senese took power in the 13th century, the Malavolti ruled until the end of the 14th century. The city walls were built between the second half of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century, only remnants of the two city gates ( Porta Senese and Porta Grossetana ) remain. The place went under the protection of Florence in 1390 when Orlando Malavolti asked the Fiorentines to do so. In the second half of the 16th century the place belonged to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany . Until August 1, 1838 Pari had its own Podestà , then the place Campagnatico was subordinated. From 1920 to 1926 the place was also autonomous, then it came to Paganico, a place that then together with Civitella Marittima became the municipality of Civitella Paganico.

Attractions

The facade of the Chiesa di San Biagio church , on the left the Oratorio Santa Croce
  • Chiesa di San Biagio , parish church from the first half of the 13th century, was documented as 'half abandoned' in 1460 when Pope Pius II visited the thermal baths in Bagni di Petriolo. The interior contains the work Madonna col Bambino tra i Santi Giovanni Battista e Pietro from the 16th century and a holy water font from 1694.
  • Oratorio Santa Croce , church building next to the church of San Biagio on the left. It was already documented in 1548 and is also the seat of the Compagnia dei Santi Fabiano e Sebastiano . Contains the painting Madonna col Bambino tra i Santi Fabiano e Sebastiano by Marco Bigio, a student of Sodoma , and two canvas paintings from the late 17th century.
  • Palazzo di Giustizia , former palace of justice at the highest point of the place. It was then converted into a school and now serves as a cultural center.
