Parque del Balneario El Almeal is a water and amusement park in the Mexican city of Cuautla in the state of Morelos , which is east of the state capital Cuernavaca and south of Mexico City . In the 1950s and early 1960s, the grounds of what was then the Parque del Balneario were home to the CD Cuautla's football field , where it played its home games in the Primera División and the Segunda División before the club moved into its new home, Estadio Isidro Gil Tapia .

history

The flowing waters created by the Popocatépetl volcano and its melting snow and the favorable climate of the valley surrounding the city make Cuautla a seaside resort and the Balneario Ejidal El Almeal, which opened in its current form in 1974, is one of its most important locations.

El Almeal comes from Nahuatl and means place where water is born . In addition to the local freshwater spring, which has been fed by the Popocatépetl for around five centuries, the park has a swimming pool with running water, a pool with a water slide, various play facilities for children and playgrounds for basketball and volleyball .

In the 1950s, the site was also home to a soccer field , where the CD Cuautla team played their home games in the Mexican Primera División, of which they were a member from 1955 to 1959. The encounters in the Mexican cup competition against the two great arch-rivals of Mexican football , America (1-0 win in the 1956/57 season ) and Chivas Guadalajara (2: 5 defeat in the 1958/59 season ), were held in Parque del Balneario disputed.

During the Mexican War of Independence , the Parque del Balneario was a strategic place where General Calleja y de Llano and his royalist troops did serious damage to the city on March 10, 1812. Later it was a location for film productions during the "golden era" of Mexican film with the participation of national film stars such as Jorge Negrete , María Félix and Pedro Armendáriz .
