Player career
Club career
Patrizio Sala, born in 1955 in the Lombard city of Bellusco in the province of Monza and Brianza , began playing football for the most important club in this province, namely AC Monza Brianza . In Monza, Sala first went through the youth department before he was accepted into the first team of the then third division team in the summer of 1973 at the age of 18. In the following two years, spent the midfielder at AC Monza Brianza, both times average rankings were in the context of the then single-track series C achieved. Due to his good performances in the Monza Brianza jersey, bigger clubs also noticed the young midfielder. In the summer of 1975 he was finally signed by AC Turin .
At Torino Patrizio Sala immediately became an absolute regular player, already in his first season in Serie A he was used in every single game of the season and was thus a decisive factor in winning the Italian championship in the 1975/76 season . In that season, the team of coach Luigi Radice , in which players such as Paolino Pulici , Francesco Graziani and Renato Zaccarelli played, took first place with two points ahead of local rivals Juventus Turin after all match days . The AC Turin provided both the best offensive and the best defensive in the league, won the most and suffered the fewest defeats. The title win in 1976 marks the club's first major success - apart from the cup victories in 1968 and 1971 - since the end of the so-called Grande Torino , the great team of AC Turin in the 1940s , which in 1949 when the Superga plane crashed was almost completely wiped out. To this day, that championship title is the last such, the club experienced a slight decline and has not been one of the leading forces in Italian club football for a long time.
In Patrizio Sala's time, however, things looked different. In the year after the championship, AC Turin was again one of the best teams in Italy and this time only had to admit defeat Juventus, which was one point better in the championship race. The following years were also quite successful for the club, which started in 1977 under the name Torino Calcio , they achieved a place among the best five teams in Italy almost every season, it was not until 1980/81 that they landed again in midfield. Furthermore, the team reached the final of the Coppa Italia in 1980 and 1981 , but failed both times only on penalties at AS Roma . Patrizio Sala was one of the regular players in both years and played all the finals. The lost second leg in the final of the Coppa Italia 1980/81 was also Patrizio Sala's last match for Torino Calcio. He left the club in the summer of 1981 after six very successful years with 159 league games and four goals.
After his engagement at Torino Calcio Patrizio Sala went to Sampdoria Genoa . With the ambitious club he was promoted from Serie B after they had occupied second place, only behind Hellas Verona , in the 1981/82 season of the Italian football club . After the promotion Patrizio left Sala Sampdoria again, he went to Fiorentina . In Florence , however, he failed to develop into an undisputed regular player and made 21 league appearances in Tuscany in one year . He then went to SC Pisa for a year , but where relegation from Serie A happened.
In 1984 Sala changed clubs again and joined AC Cesena , which was then in Serie B. In Cesena Patrizio Sala was under contract for three years until 1987, during which time he made 95 league games, in which he scored four goals. In Serie B 1986/87 Patrizio Sala managed to return to the first class with AC Cesena, a year later under the later Neapolitan master trainer Alberto Bigon with ninth place in Serie A 1987/88 the safe relegation. But Sala had already moved on after promotion and had joined the second division AC Parma in the summer of 1987 . In two years at AC Parma, placements in the upper midfield of Serie B were achieved, Patrizio Sala did not experience the rise of the financially well-positioned club as a player at AC Parma, he left the club a year earlier. Finally, Sala let his football career end from 1989 to 1990 with Solbiatese Arno Calcio in the depths of the amateur field.
National team
Patrizio Sala came between 1976 and 1980 to a total of eight international matches in the Italian national football team. This limited number of international assignments for his home country is due, among other things, to the fact that he found it difficult to get past Romeo Benetti , who played the same position as Sala. Nevertheless, Italy coach nominated him Enzo Bearzot into the squad for the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina . However, Sala was only used once, in the game for third place he was part of the Italian team, which lost Brazil 2-1.
Coaching career
After the end of his active career as a football player, Patrizio Sala became a coach. The former professional had his first engagement as a responsible person on the sidelines from 1995 to 1996 at SC Leffe , after he had previously been assistant coach at AC Monza Brianza. But as with most of his following coaching stations, he was not granted great luck, most stations ended early and unsuccessfully. His most last coach took office Patrizio Sala 2005-2006 at AS Casale , result was the decline in the Series D .
In 2005 he briefly returned to his old club FC Turin and coached the club's junior team for a few months.
