Paul-Gerhard Müller

Paul-Gerhard Müller (born June 29, 1940 in Sulzbach / Saar ; † September 30, 2016 in Kenya ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and priest .

Life

Müller came from a humble background, his father was a mine fitter in the Saarland Hühnerfeld . He studied in Trier and Leuven and was ordained a priest in 1965. He performed his service as chaplain in Illingen in the Saarland . In 1974 he worked as a lecturer in Jerusalem , in 1972 he received his doctorate in Regensburg . In 1976, Müller completed his habilitation with Franz Mußner in the subject of science of the New Testament. Second reviewer was Joseph Ratzinger , who later became Pope Benedict XVI. From 1977 he was a full professor of New Testament exegesis. When his habilitation thesis was published in 1982, Ratzinger wrote a two-page preface. From 1979 to 1989 Müller was director of the Catholic Biblical Works eV (KBW) in Stuttgart, in 1989 he was transferred to a small community in Trier. In 2003 he was head of the diocesan office for Bible study of the Diocese of Trier . From 1995 to 2005 Müller also taught New Testament theology at the Philosophical-Theological College of the Pallottines in Vallendar near Koblenz. Müller is the author of numerous books.

On July 10, 2012, Müller was dismissed from the priesthood due to the abuse allegations made against him by Benedikt Maria Trappen and other victims , which go back to 1966 ( Dimission ).
