Peter Wensierski

Peter Wensierski (* 1954 in Heiligenhaus ) is a German author , journalist and documentary filmmaker . He has been working for the news magazine Spiegel (Germany department) since 1993 .

He also became known through his books (including Beats in the Name of the Lord ), related documentaries on television and as a winner of the Federal Film Prize for Berlin Blue and a "European Television Prize" in 1993 for a film about Berlin-Marzahn .

Life

Hans-Peter Wensierski was born in Heiligenhaus in 1954 and graduated from high school in Essen in 1973 . After studying journalism, politics and history in Berlin, from 1979 he worked for the Protestant press service as the youngest western travel correspondent in the GDR . In 1985 he was banned from work and entry by the government of the GDR. While he was a correspondent in the GDR he published numerous reports, books and documentaries etc. a. on the opposition movement in the churches, among the youth, and in artistic and intellectual circles. At the same time he was working on a dissertation on "Ecological problems and criticism of industrial society in the GDR today".

From 1986 Wensierski was an editor for the ARD magazine Kontraste . In 1993 he moved to the German editorial office of Spiegel .

On August 11, 2012, Peter Wensierski conducted a spontaneous interview with Limburg Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst about his flight to India, as a result of which the Hamburg public prosecutor issued a penalty warrant against the bishop on September 25, 2013 for false affirmation of an oath requested. The criminal proceedings were discontinued when Tebartz-van-Elst paid a sum of 20,000 euros.
