Paul Blau (publicist)

Paul Blau (born April 28, 1915 in Vienna ; † October 27, 2005 there ) was an Austrian publicist , editor-in-chief of the " Arbeiter-Zeitung ", director of the Institute for Social Policy, peace and environmental activist and social democrat .

Life

Paul Blau was taken over by the Wehrmacht as a soldier in the Austrian Armed Forces at the beginning of the Second World War . After the introduction of the Nuremberg Race Laws , Blau was regarded as a “ half-Jew ” and therefore released from the Wehrmacht in 1940.

After the war he studied at the University of Vienna and at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna .

Professional career

From 1945 to 1950, Blau was the first association secretary of the Socialist Youth Austria ( SJÖ ) under chairman Peter Strasser . In the 1950s he was employed in the Federal Ministry of Transport and nationalized companies . From 1957 to 1967 he was head of the ergonomics department in the Austrian Trade Union Confederation and editor of the newspaper "Arbeit und Wirtschaft". With the change at the top of the SPÖ in 1967, the new party leader, Bruno Kreisky , put Paul Blau through as the new editor-in-chief of the Arbeiter-Zeitung. Between 1970 and 1972 he was cultural attaché in Paris . After his stay in Paris, he worked for the Vienna Chamber of Labor until his retirement . Even after his retirement he was active in the anti-nuclear and peace movement.

He was married to the politician Freda Meissner-Blau .
