Paul Coletti

Paul Coletti (* 1958 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish violist and music teacher.

The son of Italian parents had his first violin lessons at the age of eight. At the age of 18 he became a student of Alberto Lysy at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland, where he returned at the age of 24 after a three-year study visit to the USA as a professor of viola and chamber music. During his student days he had more than 100 appearances with Lysy, and he also worked several times with Yehudi Menuhin . He was assistant to Sándor Végh and Don McInnes and also counts Felix Galimir , Raphael Hillyer , Lillian Fuchs , William Lincer , Dorothy DeLay , Felix Andriewsky , Johannes Eskar , Jimmy Durrant , Lorand Fenyves , Gyorgy Sebok , Anna Chumachenco , János Starker and Zoltán Székely to his teachers.

After his debut at festivals in New York, San Francisco and Edinburgh in 1981, he performed with well-known European and American orchestras and musicians such as André Previn , Gerard Schwarz , Jean-Pierre Rampal , Pepe Romero , Dawn Upshaw , Claude Bolling and Menahem Pressler . He has played in the Sydney Opera House , the Queen Elizabeth Hall , the Berlin Philharmonie , the Kennedy Center , the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Suntory Hall , has appeared on television, was a soloist at the International Viola Congresses in Chicago and has worked with numerous string quartets and chamber music associations . His discography includes more than 30 albums.

At the age of 25, Coletti became head of the strings department at the University of Washington . At the age of 27 he became a professor at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University . He later taught at Colburn School and became director of the Chamber Music Department at the University of California, Los Angeles . In addition, he held several guest professorships, gave master classes worldwide and participated as a juror in international music competitions.
