Paul Marchand

Paul Marchand SMM (born April 17, 1937 in Lafontaine , Ontario , † July 24, 2011 in Gracefield , Québec ) was a Canadian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Timmins .

Life

Marchand attended a Montfortan college in Papineauville , Quebec, and then joined the Montfortan religious community . He made his profession on August 15, 1956 and studied philosophy and theology at the Saint-Jean Seminary in Vanier , Ontario. Marchand was ordained a priest on March 17, 1962 and studied pastoral theology at Saint Paul University and the University of Montreal and Biblical Studies at the University of Montreal. After pastoral work, he was director of the Center for Christian renewal in Drummondville (1967–1973 and 1979–1982). From 1973 to 1987 he was director of the Reception House and director of the Shrine of Mary Queen of Hearts in Montreal . From 1987 to 1990 he was pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Vanier and provincial of the Montfortans as well as a member of the extraordinary general assembly of the Montfortans from 1990 to 1993.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Tamata and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Ottawa in 1993 . He received his episcopal ordination from the Archbishop of Ottawa, Marcel André J. Gervais , on January 20, 1993 in the Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Ottawa ; Co - consecrators were his friar Gérard-Joseph Deschamps SMM, Bishop of Daru in New Guinea, and Gilles Bélisle , Old Archbishop of Ottawa.

On March 8, 1999, he was appointed Bishop of Timmins . The inauguration took place on May 17 of the same year.
