Paul Mathes

Paul Mathes (born January 20, 1871 in Vienna , † June 24, 1923 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian gynecologist and obstetrician .

After studying medicine , he did his doctorate at the University of Vienna under Emil Zuckerkandl . Mathes became a student of Anton Eiselsberg in Königsberg . Under von Alfons von Rosthorn he worked in Prague and Graz until 1907 . Mathes became a private lecturer and professor at the University of Graz before he was appointed full professor at the University of Innsbruck . From 1920 to 1922 he was President of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics and organized its congress in Innsbruck in 1922 . Paul Mathes committed suicide in 1923 at the age of 52.

Mathes was the first German-speaking gynecologist to deal intensively with the role of constitution in gynecology and to draw up therapy guidelines. His most important publication on the subject appeared a year after his death.
